Agenda and minutes from the meeting on Thursday 16 January 2025

  • 4pm to 4.20pm: Home composting basics
  • 4.20pm to 4.40pm: An introduction to Climate Fresk
  • 4.40pm to 5pm: Round table with attendees

Cathy, a Hampshire County Council waste prevention champion, presented key composting facts including what it is, how to do it, what you can and cannot compost, different types of compost, the benefits, common issues, barriers and ways to encourage residents to take it up.

She also covered rats, as one of the main barriers to composting, and how to overcome this issue.

Mya from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council introduced Climate Fresk and ran a short interactive session with attendees.

As part of the presentation, Mya explained that Climate Fresk is a three-hour workshop that explains the science behind climate change in an interactive way, and empowers participants to take action.

Sustainable Silchester had a successful energy event earlier in the week. The group is currently running a Greening Silchester Campaign.

The programme for the rest of the year was discussed. There was a request from the forum to have a future session on the borough council’s target to become carbon neutral by December 2025 and the introduction of food waste collections later in the year.
