Annie, nature engagement officer, presented the rangers’ new offering for schools and initial positive response from the first three schools to take part.

Questions and discussion: Suggestion to engage with the county council’s Youth Network. There was also a question about whether the borough council has a map of historical walks and cycle routes – council officers will look into this.

Vanessa presented on the work they had done with a school in Silchester, including highlighting how important having a contact like a governor or an eco lead is. She also said that the county council’s schools team is a really helpful resource.

The borough council’s Green Team Leader shared that DBS checks can now be done online and a basic one for volunteers is much cheaper than previously.

A question was asked about whether the borough council networks with the county council’s schools team. The borough council confirmed it does.

A comment was also made about how impressed a participant was with the Sustainable Basingstoke site, including its content and newsletter. They did also mention that those less tech savvy may struggle to see the three little bars at the top right hand of the site, where you find the menu, and so might miss out.

Calleva Community Energy shared they had been invited to present at the Community Energy showcase in London in March, run by the Government.

Repair cafe organisers shared that they were hoping to hold one in Fleet, that the Hatch Warren community had had its first repair café, and that North Hampshire Repair Cafe had now saved people over £73,500 by fixing their stuff. They also said Fleet has a place that needs old tools.

The Sustainable Baughurst Community Orchard is now planted.
